Kadidjatou urges humility in international volunteering: listen, learn, be changed, and support community-led change, not replace it.
Kadidjatou prône l’humilité dans le volontariat : écouter, apprendre, se transformer et soutenir le changement porté par les communautés.
“If I were to give one piece of advice to someone who wants to engage in international volunteering, it would be to go with humility. It’s not about arriving with ready-made solutions, but about listening, learning, and accepting to be transformed by the realities on the ground. It takes time, patience, and strong political awareness. Change comes from movements and communities themselves. Our role is not to guide them, but to support them, without ever taking their place.”
« Si je devais donner un conseil à quelqu’un qui veut s’engager dans le volontariat international, ce serait d’y aller avec humilité. Il ne s’agit pas d’arriver avec des solutions toutes faites, mais d’écouter, d’apprendre, et d’accepter d’être transformé·e par les réalités du terrain. Il faut du temps, de la patience et une conscience politique forte. Le changement vient des mouvements et des communautés elles-mêmes. Notre rôle, ce n’est pas de les guider, mais de les soutenir, sans jamais prendre leur place. »
